Our Auxiliary Bishop Brennan has been appointed as the new Bishop of Wheeling-Charleston by Pope Francis. We congratulate him on his appointment and send him to our neighbor diocese with our prayers -that he can be a leader who will be an agent of God's mercy and healing in the Church and communities of West Virginia. May the Spirit guide and strengthen him. He has only been in our Archdiocese for a short time, but has become known as a person of great integrity and strong faith. God bless him in his new role. https://www.archbalt.org/bishop-brennan-prepares-to-address-issues-in-west-virginia/
Happy feast of St Mary Magdalene!
Don’t forget the Farmers Market in St Peter’s Parking Lot on Church St (Rt 135) on Monday from 4-6 pm.
This weekend we hear another famous story from the life of Christ. There are always arguments about Martha and Mary -which is better? which is right? Why does Jesus seem to favor the one who isn't working to serve him dinner? Truth is... we can learn from both. Yes, there is work to do. And Yes... We all need time to sit quietly at the feet of our Lord and just be in His presence. Lord, helps us to remember that making time for you is important in the hustle and bustle of our busy lives.
It has been a year since I officially began at Divine Mercy parish as Director of Mission. I am grateful for this chance to serve here with people and land that I love. I am very grateful to Fr Ed and so many of our parish family who have joined me in moving us forward in the Mission of our Church! It has been a year of learning and growing and I hope we continue to grow ever more faithful on the Lord's path for us!
A Prayer for Independence Day Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. Psalms 33: 12. Eternal God, stir our minds and stimulate our hearts with a high sense of patriotism on this Fourth of July. May all that this day symbolizes renew our faith in freedom, our devotion to democracy, and redouble our efforts to keep a government of the people, by the people, and for the people truly alive in our world. Grant that we may highly resolve on this great day to dedicate ourselves anew to the task of ushering in an era when good will shall live in the hearts of a free people, justice shall be the light to guide their feet, and peace shall be the goal of humankind: to the glory of your holy name and the good of our Nation and of all mankind. Amen. (Prayer offered in Congress by Chaplain, Rev. Edward G. Latch, D.D. Wednesday 1974 with thanks to the Order of Carmelites Website)
On June 29, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul. Two of our most important Church fathers, who didn't always agree with each other, but the Church is here because of their faith and their discipleship. Let us ask Peter and Paul to pray for us as we face so many divisions in our families, our country and our world. Sts. Peter and Paul, pray for us! https://www.thecatholictelegraph.com/todays-video-celebrating-the-feast-of-sts-peter-and-paul/52450
I don't know about you, but when I get the summary of time I've spent on my electronic phone and tablet each week, it makes me pause and wonder what else I could be doing with that huge chunk of time that would be more productive. Here's a story about a person who swapped out some games for prayer, which I always think I don't have enough time for. Now there's an idea worth sharing! https://mcgrathblog.nd.edu/how-swapping-apps-on-my-phone-changed-my-prayer-life?utm_campaign=Blog%20-%20Culture&utm_content=94954794&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&hss_channel=fbp-184536758287554&fbclid=IwAR0N8gKwe2hDh_CYSxKiUiTQfgLSmyCjLQ_8OLJbOdxxzz4kkbMERmWQRBs
Fr Ed celebrates a birthday this weekend (June 23). Say a prayer for him and ask God to continue to bless his ministry with joy and grace in the year ahead. We are grateful for the gift that he has been to our parish and God’s church. Happy Birthday, Fr Ed!
